Saving time and effort, while getting your favourite cup of coffee

Ordering food online and using self-service screens in fast-food restaurants have become common conveniences in today’s busy world. They save time, eliminate long lines, and allow customers to explore the full menu without pressure.

As a former barista, I see great potential for similar systems in cafés. An app could streamline ordering by reducing the stress for indecisive customers, minimizing errors for those with allergies or specific preferences, and offering a pre-order option for busy patrons to pick up their coffee hassle-free.

Design Process

Competitive Research
Studied existing coffee and food ordering apps to identify effective features and considerations for our app.

User Journey Mapping
Mapped out the steps users take to complete actions, iterating 2–3 versions to ensure no dead ends and a smooth, efficient process.

Information Architecture & Wireframes
Planned the app’s structure, defining all necessary components and where content should go.

User Testing (Cognitive Walkthrough)
Tested wireframes with potential users to gather feedback on usability, task flow, and areas for improvement.

Visual Design/UI
Finalized the visual style and design details for each part of the app, creating a polished and user-friendly interface.

Goals

My goal was to create an app that reduces wait times and lines at cafes, simplifies drink customization, and provides clear information about the café’s offerings.

Loyalty points and personalized offers will encourage repeat usage, while the app becomes faster and more intuitive as users favorite and reorder products.

In short: a personalized experience, time saved, and easy access to product information.

  1. Flexibility and Challenges
    Working solo offered flexibility in decision-making but made it harder to stick to a schedule. I found myself making changes too late in the process, and some planned features were left incomplete due to time constraints.

  2. Growth in Confidence and Self-Management
    This project boosted my confidence in making decisions and provided valuable practice in self-management. Completing every stage of the design process on my own was a rewarding refresher of my skills and past experiences.
